Burnett Burns Mets, Fielder Finishes Comeback
In New York, the Yankees are starting to own Citi Field after AJ Burnett absolutely dominated the Mets lineup. Burnett took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, which was broken up by Alex Cora in the first at bat. Well, that was the only hit of the game for the Mets in their home ballpark. Burnett pitched seven innings and struck out 10 to lead the Yankees to the 5-0 win. This is in continuance with the June 14 start in which Burnett also went seven scoreless innings against the Mets. Jorge Posada and Nick Swisher hit homers for the Yankees. With the win, the Yankees clinched the season series against their intra-city rivals. Meanwhile, the Mets depleted lineup is starting to catch up for them. In the series against the Cardinals, they got some fortunate hits from some unknown names, but the Yankees are taking care of business and proving that the Mets need their starters back from the DL.
In Milwaukee, Prince Fielder brought the Brewers back twice to beat the Giants 7-6 at Miller Park. In the sixth inning, Fielder helped diminish a 4-0 Giants lead with a three-run homerun to tie the game at four. Then after Trevor Hoffman gave up two runs to the Giants in a tie game in the ninth, Fielder’s chance to be a hero came around again; and like before, he did not back down. The Brewers first baseman lined an RBI double to right field to complete an exciting three-run ninth inning comeback off Giants closer Brian Wilson. The win led the Brewers to keep pace with St. Louis for first place in the NL Central.
