Power Rankings: June 29 – July 5
Biggest Jumps of the Week: Rangers, White Sox +4, Mets -5
1. Dodgers (52-30) – Mannywood is back in his zipcode, it should make for an entertaining July.
2. Red Sox (49-32) – Mike Lowell lands on the shelf but Bay leads the AL in RBI, no biggie.
3. Yankees (48-33) – 9-1 in their last 10, including a sweep of division rival Blue Jays. Now if they could just sweep the Sox they’d be in good shape.
4. Angels (45-35) – Lost a crucial 2 of 3 vs. the Rangers in Texas but this week will be retaliation in LA.
5. Rangers (45-35) – Hanging in there and Josh Hamilton is finally back. That’s like buying a slugger at the trade deadline. SURPRISE!
6. Giants (44-37) – Tim Lincecum has a 23-inning scoreless streak so you know they are winning when he toes the rubber.
7. Rays (44-39) – David Price has had 5 starts where he has walked 5+ batters, WORST in the Majors.
8. Tigers (44-37) – Porcello was on the verge of rookie history and the Twins prevented him from getting win #9 before the All-Star break Sunday.
9. Phillies (42-37) – Finally taking care of business after sweeping the Mets at home during the holiday weekend.
10. Cardinals (45-39) – Colby Rasmus has stepped it up in the power-less OF of the St. Louis Cardinals, he now has 10 HRs on the year.
11. Brewers (43-39) – Prince Fielder trails just Albert Pujols in the NL in RBI.
12. Twins (43-40) – Three games over .500 for the first time all year and what a great time to do it too!
13. Rockies (42-39) – Aaron Cook came out of Saturday’s game with an apparant injury, that won’t bode well for a team competing for a wild card spot.
14. White Sox (42-40) – Their pitching is getting it done led by all-star Mark Buehrle.
15. Mariners (42-39) – Maybe with Beltre OUT of the lineup it will boost this teams power numbers. Wouldn’t that be somethin’?
16. Reds (40-40) – I don’t understand how Arroyo has lasted this long in the rotation with a 5.85 ERA.
17. Cubs (40-39) – Soriano is my favorite player but the guy needs to be benched for a couple weeks and regain some confidence.
18. Marlins (43-40) - Hanley Ramirez is an RBI machine with over 25 RBI in his last 12 games.
19. Blue Jays (42-41) – Doc Halladay hasn’t had a winning decision since his return from the DL and looks pretty bad too.
20. Astros (39-41) – Despite an all-star type season from Tejada, this team can’t climb over that .500 mark.
21. Braves (39-42) – How can you sweep the Phillies, pull within 2 games, and then lose 2-3 to the Nationals?
22. Mets (39-42) – This team should win the division if Reyes, Delgado, Beltran, Maine and Putz ever come back. Wait, isn’t that their entire starting lineup?
23. Royals (35-46) – Greinke still pitching to the tune of a 2.00 ERA.
24. Padres (35-46) – Just traded Scott Hairston to the A’s…SELLING HIGH BABY!
25. Pirates (37-45) – In last place, but just 7 games out of first; you don’t see that everyday.
26. Indians (33-50) – Cliff Lee may be the next one to get the boot in Cleveland.
27. Orioles (36-46) – Adam Jones is human. He wasn’t going to hit .380 all year.
28. A’s (34-46) – Refer to 24. Padres
29. Diamondbacks (33-49) – Webb learning towards no surgery but unlikely to pitch this year. Regardless, it won’t help so he shouldn’t risk it.
30. Nationals (24-55) – I believe Thomas Jefferson won the President’s Race on July 4th, good for him.
