Strasburg Declines Record-Breaking Deal
According to ESPN’s bottom line, SI.com reports that Stephen Strasburg declined a record-breaking deal worth $12.5 million in a signing bonus. That is $2 million more than Mark Prior made signed for with the Cubs in 2001 after he was the #2 overall pick. Granted the price of players contracts have inflated since then, but you also have to look at all the teams losing money this year with the economy. I don’t know what type of money Strasburg is looking for, $15 million? THAT would be absurd and no one would pay that…NO ONE.
When I see reports like this it makes me hate Scott Boras (Strasburg’s agent) more and more because the amount of money he asks for just ruins baseball. He is indirectly the reason why the Yankees spend so much money. He sets the bar so high for his clients and usually doesn’t get it (unless the player goes to the Yankees), and when they don’t get the amount he asks for the player is still overpaid in the end! For the Nationals sake, I hope this guys signs because it would be interesting to see Strasburg in the big leagues next September and see if he is the real deal.
*The article doesn’t discuss the declining of the contract but it talks about the offer that was reportedly declined on ESPN.

I’m curious as to whether he’d take that same deal if the team wasn’t the Nationals, ya know?
You make a good point and that could definitely be a factor. I’m sure the guy wants to win but I think he has his best shot at making it to the Majors faster on the Nationals, Orioles or Padres for example. I hate when guys pull some bull like this and don’t sign. Just based on the fact that he throws 101 MPH he should have signed months ago, take the money and ran before he blows out his arm, haha.
You heard it here first – this guy will throw 7 innings in his entire career for the Kansas City Royals. Yes, only 7, and in mop up duty for the Royals in about 5 years.
That’s idiotic, haha. I’d put money on it that you are wrong. You heard that here first.
