Power Rankings: August 3 – 10
1. Yankees (69-42) – Just swept the Red Sox in a 4 game set and have the best record since the ASB. Looking like the team that was predicted to win the WS in the beginning of the season.
2. Angels (65-44) – Just lost 2 of 3 vs the Rangers home but Torii Hunter is still on the DL. This team always wins even when Saunders and Lackey are sucking it up.
3. Dodgers (67-45) – The Dodgers have lost 5 of their last 7 at home, very uncharacteristic.
4. Cardinals (62-51) – Matt Holliday is the best thing that has happened to St. Louis since Albert Pujols 9 years ago.
5. Phillies (61-48) – Despite being swept by the Marlins, Cliff Lee has been a huge boost to this team who is still up by 4 games in the NL East.
6. Rangers (62-48) – This team has high hopes in making it to the post season for the first time since 1999.
7. Tigers (59-51) – 87 wins may be the # to win this division and the Tigers are well on their way after taking 2 of 3 vs. the Twins.
8. Rays (61-50) – Greg Zaun has been added to bolster the offense and Russ Springer was added from the A’s as an addition arm in the pen.
9. Red Sox (62-48) – Not only have the Sox lost 4 in a row to the Yankees but they have lost 6 in a row overall and are 4-6 in their last 10.
10. Rockies (61-50) – I still don’t understand how this team is 11 games over .500. Their SP isn’t that strong and their core of OFs aren’t too great and their IF (other than Helton) is batting below .270.
11. Giants (61-50) – In the absence of Randy Johnson this team is still pitching great including their bullpen. The addition of Freddy Sanchez has also been a huge pick up for this team.
12. Cubs (58-51) – Carlos Zambrano is on the 15-day DL and Samardzija will be taking his place in the rotation (making his 1st career start). This will be his time to show the Cubs he is worth holding on to.
13. Marlins (58-53) – Helped themselves in everyway by sweeping the Phillies to pull within 4. Adding Nick Johnson will provide some veteran leadership.
14. White Sox (57-55) – Jake Peavy is making a rehab start on Thursday. He could be the player the White Sox need to make a run at this division and take over the Central lead.
15. Braves (58-54) – I just don’t know what to say about this team, Mike any input? They make a run, then they are 10 games out, then they are 2 games out.
16. Mariners (58-54) – This team keeps hovering above that .500 mark but really have no shot at making the playoffs.
17. Astros (55-56) – The Astros are the National League version of the Twins up and down the .500 mark every other week.
18. Twins (54-57) – Carl Pavano is a Tiger killer, let’s hope he rubs off on the rest of the team.
19. Brewers (55-56) – I’d like to see a fight between Fielder and Mota fo’ sho’.
20. Blue Jays (53-57) – They kept onto Halladay which means he will DEFINITELY be traded next year so the Jays can get more than 1 draft pick for him.
21. Mets (52-59) – Do you think Johan wishes he was on the Twins still, or just any MLB team and not the Quadruple-A Mets?
22. Indians (48-63) – After trading away the entire roster they have been playing pretty decent going 6-4 in their last 10.
23. A’s (49-62) – They should just call up Wallace and give him a August callup tryout.
24. Diamondbacks (50-62) – With Webb on the shelf for the rest of the year, Haren will be pitching himself into being next years ace.
25. Royals (43-68) – Greinke is 1-4 in his last 5 decisions (7 game span).
26. Reds (48-62) – Picked up Scott Rolen in a trade last week and got rid of Edwin’s .200 BA although they still won’t win; so I don’t really get the move since they are picking up more salary on the books.
27. Orioles (46-65) – Can anyone name the starting rotation for the Orioles?
28. Padres (47-66) – They traded two of their starters during this years trade deadline including Peavy. From here on out, the Padres are going young with their pitchers. Clayton has been good thus far.
29. Nationals (40-72) – This is the first time all year that the Nationals have not been ranked 30th, and that is because they have won 8 games in a row!
30. Pirates (45-66) – It comes to a point where you will lose every game when you give up all of your starters in the past year. That time is now for the Pirates after losing 8 in a row.
