Power Rankings: September 21 – 27

1. Yankees (100-56) – First to 100 wins and Sabathia leads the AL with 19 wins.  Definitely the WS favorite at this point.
2. Cardinals (90-66) - Clinched in Colorado but lost 2 of 3 in what very well may be a first round playoff preview.
3. Phillies (90-65) – Lidge still sucks but this offense is so good he may not be a factor as much as everyone thinks come playoff time.
4. Red Sox (91-64) – After getting swept by the Yankees they should be happy they can’t face them in the first round of the playoffs.
5. Dodgers (93-63) – The Dodgers have the best record in the NL but still haven’t clinched the NL West.
6. Rockies (88-68) – The Rockies are still mid-stride and I can smell a first round upset if they can just hold off the Braves over the final week of the season.
7. Angels (91-64) – This team reminds me of the Yankees in the 90′s, random role players who are having career years in all categories, i.e. Rivera, Morales, Napoli.
8. Tigers (83-72) – The Tigers have a two game lead in the Central but can’t overlook the streaking Twins with a four game set at home.
9. Braves (85-70) - If they can add one power bat in the OF, this team is the favorite to win the NL East in ’10 in my opinion.
10. Twins (81-74) – They lost to Greinke on Sunday but other than that this team is playing its best baseball of the season at the best possible time.
11. Rangers (85-70) – September was a bad month for an otherwise solid team.
12. Marlins (83-73) – Too much, too late but definitely a great season to build on.
13. Giants (83-73) – I keep reading articles about how the Giants are already starting condition for players for next year so I guess they have already waved the white flag.
14. Cubs (81-74) – They made a September run but they never REALLY threatened the Cardinals for the division this month.
15. Mariners (80-76) – Seattle has won 80 games this year which is eight more than I expected from them at this seasons end.
16. Rays (79-76) – I hope the Rays can take this season as another positive and build on it so they can prevent the Yankees and Red Sox from a playoff berth next year.
17. White Sox (75-81) – Thank you for winning 2 of 3 vs. the Tigers, that’s all I could ask.
18. Brewers (77-79) – Anytime your ace (Gallardo) has 12 losses, your season is definitely in jeporady.
19. A’s (75-81) – The A’s are 17-8 in September thus far, which is definitely something these young pitchers can build on for next year.
20. Astros (72-83) – Firing Cooper was a great move but now who do they hire for 2010?
21. Blue Jays (72-84) – Halladay was pretty great in what may have been his last start in Toronto, throwing a complete game shutout, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
22. Reds (74-82) – Plenty of pieces in the organization to build with but this division is too top heavy which the Reds are not.
23. Padres (72-85) – Suck.
24. Royals (64-92) – The Royals have a winning record in September (14-11) just like the month of April, it’s those middle months that give them a problem.
25. Mets (67-89) - I love how bad the Mets turned out to be this year.
26. Cleveland (64-97) – The Royals have a chance to pass the Indians in the standings, does anyone realize this?
27. Diamondbacks (68-88) – Dan Haren wants the D-backs to pick up Webb’s option but even that won’t prevent Reynolds from striking out 210 times next year.
28. Orioles (60-95) - Is anyone an Orioles fan who DOESN’T live in Baltimore?  What is there to like about this team other than Jones and Weiters?
29. Pirates (58-96) – I can’t believe how bad this team is especially after having the best team ERA a month and a half into the season.
30. Nationals (52-103) – If they win every game from here on out and the Pirates lose all of theirs, they have a chance to sneak into 29 in next weeks PR.
