Edmonds Stays in Central and Signs with Brewers, Tatis Re-Signs

Jim Edmonds is now on his 3rd NL Central team after he signed a minor league deal with the Brewers today.  Edmonds sat out all of last year, at 39 years old, for health reasons.  Edmonds had a lot of concussions the year before he retired.  His role with the Brewers will likely a left handed pinch hitter because the Brewers only have one lefty OF and that’s Jody Gerut.  Gerut at his best and Edmonds at his worst I’d take Edmonds any day.

It’s going to be unlikely that if Edmonds makes the Major League roster he will crack more than 120 ABs.  They have so many outfielders which include newly acquired Carlos Gomez, Ryan Braun, Corey Hart, Jody Gerut and Lorenzo Cain.  I’d love to see someone like Hart get off to a slow start and they stick Edmonds in RF and he has a sick year.  His 8 gold gloves will definitely be utilitzed off the bench for the Brewers now that they lost Mike Cameron.  It will be interesting to see where this signing takes Edmonds, I just hope he stays healthy.

The Mets have re-signed Fernando Tatis as their ultimate utility man.  He will make a slightly under $1.7 million for the one year deal and should see a lot of time at first base, maybe even start at first with the likely depart of Carlos Delgado.

The Rays have signed troubled, former 2004 #1 pick Matt Bush after he was traded from the Padres to the Blue Jays and later cut by the Blue Jays.  Bush has been troubled by alchohol and never made it even close to the Majors since being drafted.  He was drafted as a SS but converted to a P.  I guarantee he will get into legal trouble and will be cut by the Rays.  What a waste of a Minor League signing.
