Jose Contreras Signs with the Phillies

The Phillies are making moves this week!  This one, not so great.  The Phillies inked Jose Contreras to a 1-year deal worth an undisclosed amount according to ESPN.com.  Contreras may be in line to earn the 5th spot in the rotation, but more than likely he will have to settle for a long relief role.  Last year, while with the White Sox and Rockies, Contreras was 5-13 with a 5.42 ERA.  During his time with the Rockies he appeared in seven games, two of which were starts, and was 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA.

Grade for the Phillies: C-; Contreras doesn’t have much left in the tank.  He will be a decent guy to have in the ‘pen though to save some relievers arms.  More than likely Contreras will miss time due to injury, he’s that old.
