Tejada Reunited with Orioles, Giambi to Stay in Denver
It is reported that former Orioles SS Miguel Tejada will be returning to Baltimore to play third base. Terms have not been fully disclosed, but it is said to be a one-year deal worth $6 million. Tejada is coming off a very good season in a very good hitter’s ballpark in Houston. He hit .313 with 14 homers and 86 RBIs. I’m sure the continuation of good hitting potential played a part in Tejada’s decision to return to Camden Yards. Tejada has been doing a lot of charity work with the earthquake cleanup in Haiti, so this deal is nice reward for him.
Grade for Orioles: B+; Initially I thought this was a poor deal, mostly because Tejada is 35 years old. Although, this is a one-year deal, so I’m sure he will be playing just as hard as he was last year to prove himself worthy of another nice contract. Plus, the Orioles needed a third baseman to replace Melvin Mora, and Tejada can do just that. I was kind of hoping he would go back to the A’s though, so that I could take my Tejada A’s jersey out of the closet and Jason would play the Oakland drums while I chant his name.

Another nearly washed up Oakland A’s player is reaching the completion of a one-year deal, as the Rockies are set to return Jason Giambi to the ballclub. The Giambino was picked up by the Rox last August for the playoff stretch, and it really paid off. The team made the playoffs with a handful of clutch hits by the backup first baseman. He hit .292 with two homeruns and 11 RBIs in 19 regular season games in Colorado.
Grade for Rockies: B; Contingent on the price of this deal, the Rockies will have a backup for 1B Todd Helton. If anything, this is a ‘thank you’ for helping them make the playoffs last year. As long as Giambi stays healthy and can make contact, he’ll get about 200 at bats next season.

One more ‘homecoming’ could be in place next week too, as the White Sox and Jim Thome have been tip-toeing around a reunion. Thome was a White Sox charity event last week and manager Ozzie Guillen is now debating whether the team should give him a contract. It sounds like a romance novel to me, so I expect him to be signed before next weekend.
