FINALLY! The Twins Add Much Needed Second Baseman

Minnesota has signed Orlando Hudson to a 1-year/$5 million deal.  Honestly, I thought Hudson to the Nationals was a done deal but he wanted $9 million per and the Nationals basically insulted him by offering $3 million.   I guess Hudson realized he wasn’t going to get $9 million and rather try to win, make the playoffs and hopefully a World Series title; he has a good shot with the Twins who desperately needed a second basemen.  I couldn’t be happier.  The Twins have finally accomplished something in the off season that they said they were going to do!

Last year Hudson got off to a hot start at 32 years of age and was an All-Star.  In September Joe Torre replaced Hudson in the lineup with Ronnie Belliard which I thought was crazy but proved to be an ok move for the Dodgers at that time.  In 2009 Hudson hit .283-9 HR-62 RBI-.357 OBP.  If he can duplicate those numbers this year the Twins will get a much needed boost to their offense; I just hope he does’t put too much pressure on himself because the people of Minnesota are very happy to have him.  I love Nick Punto’s style of play but this is better for the team, plus Punto may start at third base now.

I wrote on Pat Neshek’s facebook wall as soon as I heard about the signing and I said something along the lines of, “Is it true, did you sign Hudson?”  To which Pat responded, “It’s true, our team is stacked!”  That’s the excitement I like to see from my favorite team!

Grade for the Twins: A; I’m probably being so biased here but I mean it did cost them only $5 million for the signing and Hudson is a huge improvement to what the Twins had at second base and it’s only a one year deal if it doesn’t work out.  With the Twins payroll around $100 million this year there is no excuse to lose to the Yankees.  LET’S GO!

Isn’t this the same guy that got benched for Ronnie Belliard in LA lol? Guess everybody can’t have Chase Utley lol.

Great deal for Minnesota and Hudson. The Twins picked up a decent 2nd baseman at a decent price, and Hudson got himself a chance at a title, along with a nice days pay.
