Lincecum Reaches Deal with San Fran

12 February 2010 184 views 2 Comments

Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants reached a contract agreement that is worth $23 million over the next two seasons.  Lincecum will receive a $2 million signing bonus and be paid $8 million for the 2010
season.  His salary will be raised to $13 million in 2011.  He also can get money for performance and award bonuses.  This is a large pay raise for the back to back NL Cy Young Award winner.  The 25 year old made just $650,000 last season.  He is eligible for free agency after the 2013 season.

This is definitely something that both sides can be relieved about. Lincecum was asking for $13 million in arbitration while the Giants were only willing to offer $8 million.  This deal gives Lincecum the money he wanted and gives San Fran arguably the best pitcher in the league for the next two seasons.  Everyone can move on now.  Lincecum is 40-17 with a 2.90 ERA and 676 strikeouts in his first three seasons.

Timmy is so beast. I don’t get why he settled for just $8 million in the first year. I read reports of a 3-year/$37 million deal. I wonder how true that was; being that it’s more money and he didn’t take it. Nice first reporting post Matt. Welcome to the staff.

I agree man! Why wouldn’t he take the first offer??? I guess he wanted less years so he can’t get that CC Sabathia money in two years.
