Interleague Weekend Preview – May 21

Interleague baseball is back! Whether you hate it or not, those around baseball say it’s good because it brings in the dough. I just think it’s funny that on rival weekend there are matchups like Marlins at White Sox. Tell me how that’s a rivalry! (I mean, Sox fans love the Marlins for embarrassing the Cubs in 2003 – they love Bartman too, ha!) Here are some matchups featured this weekend!

Intrastate Rivals

NY Yankees @ NY Mets – It’s too bad the Mets had to tank the last couple of weeks out of first place. Otherwise this could have actually been a decent Subway Series for once. As it turns out, the Yankees are in a little bit of a funk themselves, so maybe this matchup will be nearly even after all. NOT! Expect the Yankees to win at least two, despite the games in Queens. I have to say the Mets could win Friday night, since Javy Vazquez is pitching for NYY, haha.

San Francisco @ Oakland – Both of the teams by the Bay find themselves in at least second place going into this series, which has to be exciting. I would have liked to see Dallas Braden throw a perfect game against the San Fran, but no luck since he won’t pitch.

Cincinnati @ Cleveland – One team is very good and one team is very bad. In years past, this could have been a legit question of which is which. Not in 2010 though, if you don’t know which team is good and which team is bad, then you’re not paying attention this season.

Baltimore @ Washington – Well, these two teams aren’t technically intrastate rivals, because the Nats play in DC, but they are like the third closest proximity in the majors. Anywho, the Nationals are pretty good this year and the Orioles are pretty (very) bad.

Interstate “Rivals”

Boston @ Philadelphia – The rivals that never should have been. I’m not going to admit to them being rivals, which is why I put “Rivals” in quotes, but they do play every year. I actually went to one of these games back in the day for like my 13th birthday or something. I do not remember who won, but the game was at the Vet!

Milwaukee @ Minnesota – Just two years ago, this series was pretty awesome. Now, the Brewers stink. At least it give the NL a chance to see the new outdoors home of the Twins. Eh, it’s not that big of a deal.

San Diego @ Seattle – Honestly, if the Padres weren’t good this year, this series wouldn’t be on my radar.

Other Good Interleague Series

LA Angels @ St. Louis – This isn’t a rivalry or anything else for that matter, but its two pretty good clubs squaring off in the STL. Then again, I’m still waiting for the Angels to truly turn it on!

Detroit @ LA Dodgers – The best thing about this series is how well these two teams are playing right now. I don’t care what league you watch, play in, care about, but this series should be GREAT.

One Boring National League Series

Atlanta @ Pittsburgh – No one in the world will be watching this series. That is all.
