Tampa Bay Comes Back in Toronto, Yanks Win Again, Marlins Rally Off Hoffman

Rays 7, Blue Jays 6

The Rays scored 4 runs in the 9th inning to beat Toronto.  Every time I look at scored for the day it seems the Rays put up another W.  Seriously, they’re 35-18 and I don’t think I have ever wrote about them losing.  They’re such a solid team from top to bottom, I’m really not sure how they missed out on the playoffs last year with almost the same roster.  Also, when you’re talking about good teams in the AL East, it doesn’t stop after the Yankees, Rays, and Red Sox.  The Jays are 31-23 and are only 4.5 games out of first.  Don’t sleep on them anymore, they’re starting to become a respectable team.

Yankees 3, Orioles 1

Miguel Tejada’s error on a ball hit by A-Rod allowed the Yanks to get the W in this one.  This was a great pitchers duel and it’s terrible that the game was lost on and error like this.  Javy Vazquez has been inconsistent all year, but tonight was one of those night where he pitched like an All Star instead of a minor leaguer.  He went 7 innings and only gave up 1 run while striking out 7.  Joba and Rivera pitched scoreless 8th and 9th innings to clinch the win.  On the other side, Brian Matusz threw 6.2 innings and only gave up 1 earned run.  Curtis Granderson homered for NY which is a great sign because he is a guy that really needs to play well the rest of the season after slumping in April and missing almost all of May on the DL.

Marlins 6, Brewers 4

I’m going to say that Trevor Hoffman is finished.  Tonight he picked up another loss when he gave up 3 runs in the 7th in a tied game.  The 42 year old legend now has an 11.65 ERA and has not looked like himself at all this season.  A good stat I saw was that Hanley Ramirez is now 40-100 (.400) against the Brewers in his career.  This guy is such an unbelievable talent and it’s sad that everybody had to talk about his negatives when he coasted to a ball after kicking it into the OF a few weeks ago.  I compare Hanley to Albert Pujols.  If Pujols wasn’t in the NL, Hanley would be winning MVP’s every year, just like Pujols would have won the MVP every year is Bonds wasn’t in the league.  Hopefully he can win everyone back over by putting up MVP numbers year after year like he has been.
