This weekend has some good matchups that should provide some fireworks and some pitching gems. This weekend has some real competition to live up to last weekend’s no-hitter/20-inning games. What will happen this weekend?
St. Louis @ San Francisco – These may be two of the best teams in the National League. Both teams have the potential to score runs, but it’s the pitching in this series that I am going to highlight.
Friday: Jamie Garcia vs. Tim Lincecum – Tough draw for Garcia, who faces his third straight ace. This time, …

Injury Report:
Manny Ramirez left last night’s game early with a strained right calf after “running” out a single. Joe Torre said Ramirez will likely miss a few days. It’s unfortunate for the Dodgers who are struggling and Manny was ready to turn the corner. The thing I don’t get is how he hurt himself? Have you ever seen Manny run out a ground ball or even a hit? He might be the laziest player to ever play the game; he should literally NEVER hurt himself due to running.
Jacoby Ellsbury has …

Ah, my two favorite targets, Carlos Zambrano and Milton Bradley. Former teammates, but not former jerks. This post will focus on their recent public notables, and of course, my lovely opinion will be added to each.
Up first is Carlos Zambrano. Isn’t it only right for me to start with the current Cub first?
When I saw that Cubs manager Lou Pinella announced that Big Z was moving to the bullpen indefinitely, my initial reaction was, “Did anyone tell Zambrano yet?” And then I thought about how I wouldn’t want to be …

Some people just aren’t good liars. Some people you can tell are lying. Some people can’t help but lie. Some people love lying for whatever reason.
Alex Rodriguez covers all of the above.
On Thursday, A-Rod committed what some say is poor baseball etiquette. But that’s not what this post is really about. The focus of this article is on how Alex Rodriguez is “lying, and loving it.”
In the sixth inning of a game in Oakland, Rodriguez was running back to first base from third after a foul ball, but he took …

First off, I’d like to say, I’ve wasted 7 hours of my life.
“But why Chris? That was such an amazing game!” – Anonymous (ok, I just made that quote up)
I’ll tell you why anonymous person, it’s because I am a Cardinals fan – and that 2-1 loss in 20 innings was completely embarrassing. Not only could they not score runs, but the game was completely mismanaged, giving the Cards less of a chance to win as the game went on.
Tony LaRussa prides himself on being the best manager in-game, because …

Giants OF Rowand Hit in Face
At the time, the game was a blow out, so I guess this was a case of adding injury to insult. Giants CF Aaron Rowand got hit in the face by a Vicente Padilla pitch in the fifth inning of Friday’s game in Los Angeles. A pitch rose up and in on Rowand, leading to two small fractures in this cheekbone and a mild concussion as well. You may recall Rowand running into the centerfield fence in Philly a few years back while playing for …

This week’s weekend preview is NL heavy – which is making me think maybe the AL favored MLB is being shifted away. Nah, it really isn’t, but check out what matchups this weekend are among the best!
Florida @ Philadelphia – Jorge Cantu now has 10 straight games to start the season with a hit and an RBI – a record he holds all alone. How many more games can he go? Well, considering he’s playing at one of the top offensive parks, there’s no reason he can’t go another three …

Lewis to the Jays
Fred Lewis was traded from the Giants to the Jays on Thursday after it was rumored to happen on Wednesday. It’s not a huge trade for either team but it does give the Blue Jays depth and they traded “a player to be named later” so it wasn’t a big hit at all. Lewis only had 300+ ABs last year in San Fran but played well in 2008 when he hit 11 triples and batted .281 with a .351 OBP.

Thirteen years ago, Major League Baseball retired the number 42 for every team to honor the ambition, courage, and life of Jackie Robinson. On Thursday, every single player in the majors will proudly dawn the number 42 for everything it represents.
Going back a few years, one player for each team was asked to wear 42, and in the last couple of years, anyone requesting to wear 42 was allowed to on April 15. I liked the idea of one player for each team being allowed to wear the retired 42 …

Jorge Cantu, Unlikely Record Holder
On Tuesday night Jorge Cantu recorded an RBI and a hit for the 8th consecutive game to start the season. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last time a player started a season with a hit and an RBI in the first eight games was in 1921. George “Highpockets” Kelly was the last person to do so and that record stood for 89 years untouched.
Cantu has a knack for this streak; last year he had a stretch in the middle of that year in which he recorded …
