Rangers Acquire Molina From Giants

The Texas Rangers are arguably the hottest team in baseball of late and they have what I consider a top 5 offense in baseball and it’s going to get better.  They have acquired former Giants-great Bengie Molina in exchange for RP Chris Ray and a player to be named later.  The Rangers haven’t had a good hitting catcher since the Ivan Rodriguez days!  Molina provides a lot of offensive power and the Rangers catchers were hitting about .230 as a unit this year.
The trade allows for Giants prospect Buster Posey …

Edwin Jackson: One ‘Wild’ No-Hitter in Tampa

Payback can come in many different ways. It could be something that planned, or maybe indirectly felt. But in the case of Edwin Jackson, he decided to gain some payback on his former team straight on and strongly.

Diamondbacks SP Edwin Jackson pitched the fourth no-hitter of the season on Friday night in Tampa Bay against the Rays, a team that traded him away just a couple seasons ago. It is the second no-hitter in D’Backs history (Randy Johnson, perfect game, 2004) and the first of Jackson’s career.

In the ninth inning, …

Strasburg Overcomes Poor Mound Conditions for Win in First Road Start

2 games up, 2 wins down.

Playing in a city that knows a thing or two about young phenoms (LeBron James), Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg made his second start and earned his second career win against the Cleveland Indians in what ended up as a 9-4 final in favor of the Nationals. On Sunday, he showed much of the command he possessed in his first career start on Tuesday against the Pirates, but some technical mound issues slowed him down a bit as the game went on.
First let’s take a look …

National Spotlight: Stephen Strasburg K’s 14 in Debut

The myth, the legend, the…… real deal?

The most anticipated first career start since Cy Young ended with a bang and lived up to the hype. I knew Stephen Strasburg would have a good game, but WOW!

Nationals phenom starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg made his debut on Tuesday night in Washington DC in front of 40,315 fans. I use the word ‘fan’ loosely though, because this may be the first time in the team’s history that someone would admit to being a fan of the Nats. The 21-year-old was on it all …

Bryce Harper Goes #1 Overall To Nats

Bryce Harper, the so-called LeBron James of the Majors, was drafted #1 overall tonight in the 2010 First Year Players Draft to the Washington Nationals.

If you don’t know Bryce Harper and his story, you will by the end of this article.  Harper is just 17 years old and after his Junior year in HS he decided to take the test to get his GED to play Junior College Baseball with the big boys instead of hit .600 again in HS.  That’s right, in 2009 Harper batted .626 and hit 14 …

Bud Selig Drops The Ball

Bud Selig might as well have been the first baseman in a perfect game situation, bottom of the 9th and two outs and let the final out roll right through his legs to blow it for his pitcher because he basically did just that.
After Galarraga’s near perfect game last night, which was a clear cut blown call by 1st base umpire Jim Joyce, was blown again the following day by Selig himself.  Selig had a chance to redeem Joyce’s mistake and give Galarraga the perfect game.  Sure, not everyone would …

“I Just Cost That Kid a Perfect Game.”

Bottom of the 9th. Two outs. Perfect game on the line. Who would you rather be?
a) The pitcher
b) The hitter
c) One of the fielders
d) The umpire

Not many of you would even think to include the umpire in this group, but wouldn’t you know that the umpire was the difference maker in what could have been the final play in a perfect game.
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Tigers SP Armando Galarraga was looking to put the finishing touches on a perfect game, but more importantly he was …

Halladay Throws A Perfect Game

Congrats to Roy Halladay for throwing the 20th perfect game in Major League history.  The game was a typical Halladay game: deep into the game (9 innings obviously), had a decent pitch count (115) and recorded 11 strikeouts with zero walks (obviously).  I was actually in Philly and caught the end of the game on TV, but unfortunately the game was in Florida or I would have drove right down to the stadium to chill with Halladay (not really, but that would be cool).

The Phillies scored one run in the …

Sunday’s Interleague Games Highlighted by Walkoffs, Homers and More Offense!

The first wave of interleague games are over after Sunday’s games around the MLB. We had our fair share of great games this weekend, and Sunday was no different! Here is a quick look at each game that Sunday had to offer!

Cardinals 6, Angels 5 (10 innings) – Felipe Lopez completed the comeback with a longgg single to the centerfield wall. Interesting note, the Angels actually moved their centerfielder in to play the infield (yes, five infielders). Obviously it didn’t’ work, as Lopez drilled a ball to the wall.
Red Sox …

Former ML Pitcher Jose Lima Dies at 37

Sad news on Sunday, as former major league pitcher Jose Lima died in his Los Angeles home at the age of 37 of an apparent heart attack.
Lima played 13 seasons in the majors with the Tigers, Astros, Royals, Dodgers and Mets, and he had a career record of 89-102. His best season was with Houston in 1999 when he won a career-high 21 games and made his only all-star team. I’ll tell you this, he was scary that year.
He always made sure he put a show on the mound, and …
