Nasty 9: Excessive Celebrations

From least ridiculous to most ridiculous.
9. Carlos Marmol – Marmol isn’t even a closer and he is jumping around, fist pumping out of control when he strikes people out.  There isn’t much else to say about him; he is good and strikes a ton of guys out. Out of everyone on the list he probably keeps his cool the most but if you look at the picture below he kinda looks like a monkey with the placement of his fist pump and those huge ears.  I’m gonna go out on …

Nasty 9: Manny’s “Top” Moments

In ‘honor’ of Manny Ramirez being suspended for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, I’ve come up with a list of Manny’s biggest moments as a professional baseball player. One twist – I’ve also thought about what those moments would be like if Manny was off the drugs (assuming he was on them for each). Enjoy!
9) 2008 Second Half: Manny hits .396 – After his trade to LA, Manny hit .396 for the Dodgers, lifting them to the playoffs and a first round win. This almost won him the NL MVP …

Nasty 9: All-Crooked Hat Team!

To be a member of the All Crooked Hat Team the brim of one’s hat must be cocked to either the left or right side of a player’s head (definitely NOT centered on their head).  Also the brim must be pretty flat, although there are some exceptions to this rule.  If the brim is curved in anyway there must be a huge degree of hat cocking to the side to still make the roster.
And now the starting lineup for your All Crooked Hat Team…

Nasty 9: Necessary Makeovers from April

The first month of baseball is over and we move to warmer weather and more intense matchups. Some teams (and players) are in need of some “changes” from their April ways. The following are the Nasty 9 Necessary Makeovers from April:
9) Bullpen makeover: Brewers – The Brewers lead the league with 7 blown saves through the first month of the season. Their makeover is up and down the bullpen. It helps getting Trevor Hoffman into the mix, but I’m not sure how effective he’ll be, despite being the all-time saves …

Nasty 9: Top 5 Starting Pitchers

1. Johan Santana – ’04 and ’06 Cy Young, ’08 third place.  200+ strikeouts five years in a row.  109-51 career record coming into ’09.
2. Roy Halladay – Definition of a pitcher.  Greg Maddux-like who works on the black and on bad teams he still manages to win.  ’03 Cy Young, ’08 runner up.  Two 20 win seasons.  134-66 career record.
3. Tim Lincecum – 256 strikeouts in his second full year, 18 wins against 5 losses, a sub 3 ERA and the Cy Young Award.  Sky is the limit for Lincecum.
4. …

Nasty 9: Top 5 Right Fielders

1. Ichiro – 8 consecutive season of 200+ hits tying the MLB record.  Eight gold gloves in his first eight years in America.  MVP his first American season and ROY.  He will definitely be a HOF in America and Japan.
2. Vlad Guererro – Doesn’t strike out and can hit ANY pitcher out of the park.  One of the most feared hitters just based on the fact you can’t throw anything by him.
3. Nick Markakis – O’s franchise player who drives in runs, hits for average and gets on base.  Teams …

2. Grady Sizemore – Gold glove CF with plenty of pop for a leadoff hitter hitting 22-28-24-33 HRs in his 1st four years in the Majors and counting.
3. Carlos Beltran – Gold glove winner from ’06-’08. Eight seasons of 100+ RBI, seven sesaons of 100+ runs, eight seasons of 20+ HRs.

Nasty 9: Top 5 Left Fielders

1. Manny Ramirez – Over 500 HRs, over 1200 RBI, over .300 BA.   One of the worst defensive OF but his offense overrides that in my rankings.
2. Ryan Braun – 23 years old and already has 71 HRs in his 1st two seasons combined.  Averaged 104 RBI in those two years as well.  Guy can flat out hit with a strong throwing arm.  He just needs to develop OF skills for that arm.
3. Alfonso Soriano – Soriano would have went down as the best hitting 2B had he have stayed …

2. Jose Reyes – Scored 100+ runs three years running and 55+ steals four consecutive years and counting.
3. Jimmy Rollins – MVP in ’07, great all around player.  Best defensive NL SS today.
4. Derek Jeter – Knows how to win, 4 WS under his belt.  Career BA of .316.  Still nasty on D.
5. Michael Young – 200+ hit seasons from ’04-’07.  90+ …

Nasty 9: Top 5 Third Basemen

1. A-Rod – Second best player in the game.  Can hit any pitch out of the ballpark and is on pace to hit over 800 HRs.  Still only 33 years old.
2. David Wright – Best defensive 3B in the game, slightly edging out Longoria.  This guy will give up his body no questions asked.  Four seasons with at least 25 HRs, 100 RBI and OBP of at least .380.
3. Evan Longoria – ROY last year.  Better fielder than Chavez who won six consecutive gold gloves in the hot corner.  Hit …
