Well, I predicted it in some of my previous posts and it turns out I was right. At 11:52 PM, Mariano Rivera sealed the deal for the New York Yankees in route to their 27th World Series Championship.
On a much debated start on 3 days rest, Andy Pettitte silenced the nay-sayers of Joe Girardi’s decision to start him on short rest; which he hasn’t done since 2003. In obtaining the win, Pettitte not only added to his now record 17 postseason wins, but also added to his record of most …

Maybe this will be a good series after all..? One night after an emotionally and mentally draining game, the Phillies came back and made a statement that this series is NOT over. After losing the first two games on their home field, the Phillies beat the Yankees 8-6 to improve to with a 3-2 World Series deficit. Cliff Lee was not dominating as he was in Game 1, but he did the trick and held the lead in a game that was nearly fully controlled by the Phillies – other than …

Sunday night’s Game 4 in Philadelphia had just about every stroryline of the 2009 season revisited on baseball’s biggest stage. From CC Sabathia going on three days rest to Brad Lidge imploding, the Yankees took advantage of Philly mistakes and won the game 7-4 to take a 3-1 lead in the World Series. Sabathia and Joe Blanton went head-to-head in a matchup that favored Sabathia, but the game stayed close enough to come down to the end. After a comeback by the Phillies, Brad Lidge came into the game and …

Moving down I-95 to Philadelphia brought a sense of change for the series. One that for the average sports fan would be better for their viewing pleasure. That better thing is offense. And offense there was. After two tight, well-pitched games in New York, the two teams combined for six homeruns in an 8-5 Yankees win over the Phillies. After a 1 hour, 20 minute rain delay, the two offenses jumped on the anxious pitchers in a long night full of scoring. After falling behind early, the Yankees scored in …

The New York Yankees have had one nearly flawless formula for success in 2009 and it goes something like this: hit homeruns and get the ball to Mariano Rivera. That’s precisely what the Yanks did on Thursday night to even up the series at 1-1 after a 3-1 win over the Phillies in Game 2 of the World Series. What was somewhat expected to be a high scoring game, starting pitchers Pedro Martinez and AJ Burnett thrilled the crowd by taking advantage of a big strike zone for a low …

Disclaimer: I apologize in advance for being completely bitter for the next week, as I have been keeping my fingers crossed for a meteor to hit the east coast rather than allowing the Phillies or Yankees win the World Series. Although, as you can see, I wrote this post and the game was played, so here’s how it went.
Game 1 of the 2009 World Series had a pair of stars as the Philadelphia Phillies upended the New York Yankees 6-1 to take a 1-0 series lead. The starting pitching matchup …

Well in case you didn’t know, or an obnoxious Yankee fan didn’t boast to you about it at a bar, or on twitter or on facebook, the Yankees won the series vs. the Angels four games to two with a 5-2 win in game 6. Andy Pettitte got the win for the Yankees to give him 16 postseason wins which is #1 all-time, passing John Smoltz. Pettitte deserved the victory in this game and pitched very well. Him and the Yankees were down 1-0 after the 3rd on a Abreu single that scored …

Oh Yankee fans, how I love this. Every Yankee fan has already punched their ticket to the World Series to play the Phillies and have an east coast battle, but Thursday night’s game 5 just shows the Angels haven’t given up quite yet. The Angels made a statement by scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning of the game on a 2-run single by Torii Hunter followed by an RBI hits by Vlad and Morales. John Lackey looked very impressive and held the Yankees scoreless until the 7th inning.
John Lackey …

They’re baaackkkk. The Philadelphia Phillies are returning to the Fall Classic for the second straight year after a convincing 10-4 win over the Dodgers in game 5 of the NLCS to win the series 4-1. The series truly belonged to Philadelphia who seemingly could do no wrong in advancing to the 2009 World Series.
Scoring came early and often as each team scored in the first two innings. Andre Ethier got the Dodgers on the board with a solo homerun in the top of the 1st off Cole Hamels, but the …

As much as I want to deny it, you can basically put it in the books that 2009 will be an east coast World Series featuring the Phillies and Yankees. While the book is open, you might as well just pencil the Yankees in for their 27th World Championship because this team looks UNSTOPPABLE. I just hate admitting that in writing.
This game was so lopsided and if you didn’t take a look at the box score the game wound up being a 10-1 Yankees win with CC nearly going the distance …
