Lincecum and Oswalt Both Dominate

Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants threw a 2-hit complete game shut out against the Cardinals on Monday night.  It took Lincecum just 95 pitches, 60 of which were strikes, to complete the game with zero walks.  This may have very well been Tim Lincecum’s best start of his career due to his low pitch count, no walks, giving up 2 hits and striking out 8 batters.  As a matter of fact he had a perfect game with 2 outs in the 5th inning until Rick Ankiel’s single.  Lincecum has …

Rays Steamroll Towards First, Red Sox Are Not Amused

In Toronto, the Rays beat the Jays 4-1 despite the Jays throwing out Cy Young candidate Roy Halladay. Last season around this time, the Rays were making the baseball world think that they were over exceeding their stay in first place in the AL East. They went into the all-star break in miserable shape and their season looked bleak. However, this season the Rays started slow, unlike 2008, and are now making their charge towards the top of the division as we approach this year’s all-star break. The Rays got …

Rivera Saves #500, Lidge Saves Phils

In New York, the Yankees took a first-inning mistake and used it to build a lead they would never give up in a 4-2 win over the Mets. Derek Jeter doubled to start the game and the momentum of the game shifted in one small play. Nick Swisher grounded to first baseman Daniel Murphy in the next at bat, but he chose to try to nail Jeter at third, rather than take the first out of the game. The play backfired, and all runners were safe. The Yankees went on …

Hanson Battles Flu & Sox, Greinke Leads AL

In Atlanta, Braves rookie pitcher Tommy Hanson’s great start to his career couldn’t even be slowed down by a flu-bug in a 2-1 win over the Red Sox. Hanson went six innings and allowed only two hits and two walks, as well as zero runs. His season and career stats are now 4-0 with a 2.48 ERA. Hanson wasn’t feeling well on Saturday and manager Bobby Cox did not expect him to be available to start on Sunday, but Hanson went out and tossed a great game, proving he belongs …

Burnett Burns Mets, Fielder Finishes Comeback

In New York, the Yankees are starting to own Citi Field after AJ Burnett absolutely dominated the Mets lineup. Burnett took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, which was broken up by Alex Cora in the first at bat. Well, that was the only hit of the game for the Mets in their home ballpark. Burnett pitched seven innings and struck out 10 to lead the Yankees to the 5-0 win. This is in continuance with the June 14 start in which Burnett also went seven scoreless innings against the …

Sizzling Pitchers’ Duels in Hot-lanta and the Desert

Saturday afternoon displayed two great pitching duels in Atlanta and Phoenix. Here’s a wrap-up from each of those games!

In Atlanta, the Red Sox were fortunate to get another amazing start from 42 year-old Tim Wakefield to win a tight 1-0 game over the Braves. The knuckleballer went six innings and allowed zero runs on three hits to pick up his 10th win on the year. Boston got the lone run of the game in the sixth inning on a Mark Kotsay RBI single. Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 18th save …

Pujols Powers Cardinals, White Sox Walk-off

In St. Louis, the best player in baseball left the Twins wondering why they bothered pitching to him in the first place. The Cardinals won 5-3 on two long balls from Albert Pujols, who hit his 27th and 28th homeruns which continue to lead the majors. The next two at bats resulted in walks for Pujols, but it was certainly too late for Minnesota. Todd Wellemeyer started for the Cards, but continued his struggles. He left the game in the third inning, leaving 19 outs for the bullpen to pick …

Bradley and Pinella Fueding, Beckett Dominating Braves Still

The Cubs beat the White Sox on Friday 5-4 but Milton Bradley and Lou Piniella were going at it in the dugout.  Bradley struck out on a pitch from Jose Contreras and proceeded to walk into the dugout smashing water coolers and chucking his helmet.  Piniella and Bradley got into an argument in the tunnel and it was said by Pinella after the game that they exchanged words and Lou told Bradley to take off his uniform and go home…ouch!  This was bound to happen, anyone could have called this …

The Subway Series continued in Flushing, New York on Friday night with a 9-1 Yankees victory after CC Sabathia held the Mets to just 3 hits and had a single and RBI of his own.  Sabathia held the Mets to just 3 hits and had a no hitter through the first 4 innings.  The past two games combined the Mets have been no hit for the first 7 innings combined.  Brett Gardner had a ridiculous game for the Yankees in the leadoff spot going 5-6 with 3 singles, a triple …

Girardi’s Fire Lights Win, Red Sox Feel Like Home in DC

In Atlanta, the Yankees avoided what could have been history all with an eruption of the manager. In the sixth inning, the Yankees were down 1-0 and had zero hits off Braves pitchers Kenshin Kawakami and Kris Medlen. Brett Gardner drew a walk and got picked off at first base, but the umpire clearly missed the call. Well, Yankees manager Joe Girardi was not having this. He came out and just let the umpire have it and was easily ejected from the game. The VERY next hitter, Francisco Cervelli, hit …
