Rangers Rake to Walk-off, Twins Take First-Place Tie

In Texas, the Rangers had a walk-off win for the second straight day against the Seattle Mariners to win 3-2. Seattle went into the bottom of the ninth inning up 2-0 with closer Brandon Morrow on the mound. Just like that, the lead was down to 2-1 after a Hank Blalock leadoff homer. Following a one out double by OF David Murphy, Chris Davis came to the plate. He had yet to continue his streak of 21 straight games with a strike out. So what does Davis do? Whiff? Nope; …

Jim Leyland Looking Like An Idiot

Last night, umpire Paul Schrieber called Tigers RF Magglio Ordonez out on strikes and he was not happy.  Mag-Pipes began arguing the call and wouldn’t leave the batters box.  Schrieber put his hand on the small of Magglio’s back and was guiding him in the direction of the dugout, so he wouldn’t have to eject Ordonez for arguing balls and strikes.
That’s when Tigers manager Jim Leyland went OFF! He came storming out of the dugout as if this was the worst called 3rd strike while in the 7th game of the World …

Two 1st Instant Replay HR Reversals on Same Night

Remember late last season when the MLB decided to use instant replay for the first time in its history? Well, instant replay is still around, and last night was the first time that a homerun call was reversed to a double…and it happened twice!

The first instance was in Pittsburgh, as Pirates 1B Adam LaRoche smacked a ball to right field which bounced back into the field. The initial call by the first base umpire was a homerun, but then Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols pointed out that the ball never actually …

Crede’s Walk Off Granny, Astros 24 Hit Game, Rangers Walk Off

Dontrelle Willis made his season debut for the Detroit Tigers tonight after being placed on the DL earlier in the year for an anxiety disorder (maybe he will come back and be the next Zack Greinke…NOT).  Much of the focus was on how Willis would fare tonight; the answer, not so great.  He pitched 4.2 innings, giving up 4 ER on 8 hits and 2 walks.  Twins starter Glenn Perkins wasn’t much better; 5 IP, 5 ER, 5 hits and 4 walks.  The game went back and forth all night …

Zimmerman’s Hit Streak is Over

In what turns out to be a sad day for our blog, as well as all other bloggers out there, Ryan Zimmerman’s hit streak has come to an end.  You see, for 30 straight days he provided bloggers out there something to write about.  I mean no one is going to write about the Nationals this year unless we discuss how bad they are and how they will end up with Strasburg as the #1 pick in June’s draft.
Ryan Zimmerman got a hit in 30 consecutive games tying a Nationals …

Former ML Infielder Accuses Red Sox of Teaching Organization About Steroids

The game of baseball better not be approaching the realm of a joke; although, an article from si.com is making me a little paranoid. Former ML infielder Lou Merloni has made comments that the Red Sox, an organization he was with for 7 years, actually taught players how to use steroids. Merloni was in the minors from 1996-1997 and with the big league club from 1998-2002. Here is a direct quote from the article, which Merloni stated as an analyst on Comcast’s “The Baseball Show” on Saturday:
“I’m in spring training, …

Jayson Werth stole a franchise record 4 bases tonight vs. the Dodgers. Not only did he steal 4 bases but he stole 3 in one inning meaning he DID steal home (Eric Young last did this same fate in ’96). The steal of home was delayed for Werth. After the game he told reporters he knew right away he could steal home off of Russell Martin. He didn’t look him back one time while the bases were loaded with two out. Werth began tip-toeing down the line as Belisario delivered the pitch, as soon …
