Time and time again Ozzie Guillen puts his foot in his mouth. This weekend was no exception.
For those of you who don’t know, the Minnesota Twins will be moving out of the Metrodome this coming season to play in an outdoor stadium (Target Field). There was a special advantage in the ‘Homerdome’ that was truly not duplicated anywhere else. The sound was louder than any other field, the turf was so hard that it allowed them to build teams around speed, and the roof was white (try catching a white baseball …
For years, Alex Rodriguez was the most underachieving postseason player based on his regular season statistics in sports history. In 2009, A-Rod ‘exercised his demons’ and had a terrific playoff to help lead the Yankees to their 27th World Series title. In addition to this, Rodriguez won the Postseason MVP award at the 87th annual New York baseball writers’ dinner on Saturday night. Not only this, but A-Rod choked up and started to cry at the achievement that he won and the obstacles he had to overcome.
Give me a break.

It is reported that former Orioles SS Miguel Tejada will be returning to Baltimore to play third base. Terms have not been fully disclosed, but it is said to be a one-year deal worth $6 million. Tejada is coming off a very good season in a very good hitter’s ballpark in Houston. He hit .313 with 14 homers and 86 RBIs. I’m sure the continuation of good hitting potential played a part in Tejada’s decision to return to Camden Yards. Tejada has been doing a lot of charity work with …
The Phillies are making moves this week! This one, not so great. The Phillies inked Jose Contreras to a 1-year deal worth an undisclosed amount according to ESPN.com. Contreras may be in line to earn the 5th spot in the rotation, but more than likely he will have to settle for a long relief role. Last year, while with the White Sox and Rockies, Contreras was 5-13 with a 5.42 ERA. During his time with the Rockies he appeared in seven games, two of which were starts, and was 1-0 with …
The Mets traded Brian Stokes, a middle reliever, for washed up OF Gary Matthews Jr. Matthews had a decent year in Texas in 2006, ironically a contract year, and has been terrible ever since signing a 5-year/$50 million deal with the Angels before the 2007 season. It was by far the worst contract in Angels history. Matthews Jr. is an above average fielder but is now 35 and possess zero offensive skills. I am bashing the crap out of him right now because I knew he wasn’t going to be …
Octavio Dotel can still throw heat and the Pirates are putting the task of closing out ball games for the 2010 season for him as they signed him to a 1-year/$3.5 million deal. There is a club option for $4.5 million in 2011 and a $250,000 buy out. Dotel wanted to close while with the White Sox, that much was clear. What was unknown heading into the offseason was what team was willing to sign him and have him close? Keep in mind Dotel is 35, but again he still can …
Vincente Padilla has re-signed with the Dodgers on a 1-year/$4 million deal after playing half the season with them last year. Padilla was cut by the Rangers due to his poor attitude and always hitting players and creating a beef that the Rangers didn’t want to deal with. Padilla had some success in just 8 games for the Dodgers last year, which included 7 starts. He had a 3.28 ERA and was 4-0. Padilla will start the year in the rotation, likely as the 4th starter.
