Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there! If you’re like me and my dad, then you were following baseball throughout the day. Here are some scores from Father’s Day!
Yankees 4, Mets 0 – It was the father of all homeruns for Mark Teixeira on Sunday in Yankee Stadium, as he hit a grand slam for the only runs of the game. CC Sabathia outdueled Johan Santana, as the Yankees evened out the Subway Series at 3-3.
Twins 4, Phillies 1 – Roy Halladay is having a great year in …
Yankees 5 Mets 3
Despite Jose Reyes’ 2 homers, the Yankees were able to take down the Mets in the 2nd game of the 3 game series. The Yankees were helped by a pair of longballs themselves by Granderson and Teixeira and Phil Hughes was dominant other than the 2 homers he gave up to Reyes. Seeing Hughes pitch every 5 day makes my week. I love watching him throw. He’s the Yankees 5th starter and he’s 10-1 this year with a 3.17 ERA at only 23 years of age. A …
Interleague play continues this weekend with some really interesting matchups. Manny is back in Boston, New York dukes it out, and Stephen Strasburg returns to the mound!
LA Dodgers @ Boston – Stop the presses! Manny is BACK in Beantown! After basically doing everything he could to get out of Boston, Manny Ramirez returns to his old residence with the Dodgers for the first time (including after the steroids thing from last year). He brought them two World Series titles, a bunch of homers, some terrible defense, and a whole lot …
This edition of News and Rumors is jam packed with some big news a few rumors floating throughout the league.
Not So Chipper Anymore
It looks like Bobby Cox may not be the only person retiring from a long career with the Atlanta Braves. After the last few years, Braves 3B Chipper Jones has said he wasn’t just going to hang around if he felt he couldn’t do anything productive anymore. Well, the 38-year old hasn’t announced anything, but it appears the idea of retiring in 2010 is not out of the …
There are a TON of interleague games from Wednesday night. So let’s take a quick look at them all!
Phillies 6, Yankees 3 – Like I really need a rematch of last year’s World Series. I don’t like either of these teams, so a rematch in the regular season just annoys me. In this one, the Phillies offense did what the Yankees did last night. And who would think Jamie Moyer would dominate the Yanks a day after Roy Halladay gets shelled? Not this guy.
Braves 6, Rays 2 – This matchup …
Yankees 8, Phillies 3
In a game where CC Sabathia faced off against Roy Halladay, CC got the better of his opponent. Sabathia improved to 7-3 as Halladay dropped to 8-5. Halladay g up 6 runs. A two run triple to Gardner in the 2nd, homers to Granderson and Swisher in the 3rd, and a solo homer to Teixeira in the 5th. I don’t think anybody would have guessed that Halladay would come into Yankee Stadium and have an outing like this, especially with his history of Yankee dominance. The Phillies …
MLB POWER RANKINGS (June 7 – 13)
Biggest jumps from last week: Angels +6, Cardinals -9
1. Yankees (40-23) – New York takes over the top spot thanks to a week full of winning. The offense is clicking again, which could keep them up here for a while.
2. Rays (40-23) – Losing 2 of 3 at home to the Marlins isn’t good. I’m not even going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they’re rivals.
3. Braves (37-27) – This is what we expected the Braves to do from the …
